What Your SASSA Status Means

SASSA reassesses eligibility every single month, so your status can change from one month to the next.

✅ Approved

Your application passed verification for that month. Check the payment date shown — payments are released in batches later in the month.

⏳ Pending

SASSA is still verifying your details against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF and NSFAS records. Statuses are usually finalised around the middle of each month.

❌ Declined

Your application did not pass for that month. A reason is shown next to it — you can request reconsideration for that month on the official portal.

🪪 Identity Verification Failed

Your details did not match Home Affairs records. Double-check your ID number and names, then use the identity verification option on the SRD portal.

🏦 Bank Details Pending

Your application is approved but SASSA has no bank details (or cash-send option) on record. Update your payment method on the official portal.

Declined? Here’s What to Do

A declined month can be reconsidered. First, check the reason shown next to that month:

Common reasons for a declined SRD application:
  • Means test failed — SASSA detected income or bank activity above the threshold (currently R624).
  • Identity verification failed — details didn’t match Department of Home Affairs records.
  • Registered for UIF — you’re receiving unemployment insurance benefits.
  • NSFAS funded — you’re currently funded as a student.
  • Existing grant — you’re already receiving another SASSA social grant.

How to appeal: request reconsideration for the declined month on the official SRD portal. Appeals are decided by the Independent Appeals Tribunal — not by SASSA itself — so submit it through the official channel only, and never pay anyone who offers to “fix” your status.

SASSA SRD Payment Information

💰 Amount: the grant is now R370 per month (increased from R350 in 2025). Many people still call it the “R350 grant”.

📅 Payment dates: there is no single fixed pay day. After SASSA completes its monthly verification, payments are released in batches — usually in the second half of the month.

🔄 Monthly reassessment: unlike other grants, the SRD grant is re-checked every month against SARS, UIF, NSFAS and bank records. Check your status regularly, not just once.
